HEATING A GLASS TERRACE - THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE YOUR TERRACE COMFORTABLE EVEN ALL YEAR ROUND
Share
A glass terrace or in-glassed balcony is always one of the most popular living spaces at home. It offers the opportunity to enjoy natural light and the landscape in any weather. However, cool evenings or autumn days or colder days of winter can make staying there uncomfortable. The solution is a properly designed glass terrace heating, which makes the space usable almost all year around.
In this guide, we will go over what types of heaters are available for glass terraces, what to consider when choosing one, and why our customers have been particularly satisfied with choosing the Solamagic glass terrace heater.

Why does a glass terrace need a heater?
Many people buy a beautiful glass terrace to extend their terrace season. When the temperature starts to drop, a heater brings the necessary comfort to the space and allows it to be used for significantly more months than without heating. A glass terrace is often a valuable investment, so why not make the most of it with a high-quality heater investment?
Benefits of a heated glass terrace:
- Extended use time - from early spring to late autumn, even on warmer winter days
- Increases living comfort - the heat makes the glazed space a cozy and natural extension of the interior
- Removes moisture - an electric glass patio heater removes moisture, while a gas heater, for example, produces it.
- Creating an atmosphere - especially Solamagic or Etherma glass patio heaters produce pleasant warmth that surrounds the people in the space from all sides.
Glass terrace heating options
1. Modern Solamagic or Etherma glass patio heater
Simply the best option for heating a glass terrace. Using unique technology, the Solamagic AIR+ or Etherma EXO DARK glass terrace heater warms not only the objects in its area of influence but also the entire air mass in the glazed space with its soft but effective heat. This means that the heat surrounds the occupants of the space from all sides, making the feeling of warmth even and therefore particularly pleasant.
Benefits:
- Pleasantly soft and even, effective heat immediately
- No disturbing, illuminating red glow, which also does not reflect off glass surfaces
- Energy efficient - 99% of the energy used is converted into heat
- Removes moisture from glass terraces - fresher and more pleasant air
- No soot, odors or smoke and completely maintenance-free
- Doesn't take up floor space - valuable glass terrace squares put to full use

2. Traditional infrared heater
So-called traditional infrared heaters only heat objects within their area of effect, not the air mass. They produce heat immediately when you turn on the power.
For example, Solamagic PREMIUM+ or ECO+PRO are perfect for open terraces and balconies, but are also an excellent choice for glazed spaces. When it comes to installation, you just need to take into account the installation height of the different power classes and if you want to optimize heat output, we recommend installing the device in the immediate vicinity of the area to be heated. A traditional infrared heater is also a great choice, for example, for a larger glass terrace, where you only want heat to a certain part of the terrace and thus minimize energy consumption. In any case, it is not a good idea to direct the heat to areas where there is no occupancy, such as walkways or in front of a doorway.
Traditional patio heaters also produce more red glow, which may be more or less unpleasant or a compromise when choosing a heater, but the modern cutting-edge technology of Solamagic and Etherma heaters allows for the lowest red glow possible with current technology.
Benefits:
- Powerful heat in one second - no preheating phase
- Can be used effectively to heat a specific area on larger glass terraces - so-called spot heating
- Removes moisture
- For example, the modern infrared technology utilized by the Solamagic PREMIUM+ heater achieves the best possible efficiency, with up to 96-97% of the energy used being converted into heat. With most other brands, the efficiency can be tens of percent lower, which means less heat, a smaller heated area, and more red glow.
- Performance - see how the multiple test winner Solamagic ECO+PRO 1400 has performed compared to other European brands.
- No soot, odors or smoke and completely maintenance-free
- Doesn't take up floor space - valuable glass terrace squares put to full use
3. Gas heaters
A gas heater produces efficient heat that spreads into the surrounding air mass. Using a gas heater on a glass terrace, and in fact anywhere else outdoors, is neither cost-effective nor environmentally friendly, so we do not recommend using a gas heater for heating outdoor spaces.
Lämpöstore only supplies energy-efficient and environmentally friendly heating solutions, and for this reason we have not chosen gas heaters for Lämpöstore's product range.
In fact, the use of gas heaters is banned in many European cities in public places. A gas heater produces humidity, pollutes, requires storage of LPG, takes up floor space and when burned, it produces unpleasant soot and odors in glazed spaces.
Benefits:
- Efficient heat generation
- Possible living flame as a atmosphere creator
4. Bioethanol burners
Bioethanol fireplaces, which are growing in popularity, burn cleanly and do not pollute or produce much odor, depending on the type of bioethanol used. Biofireplaces produce some heat, but we recommend using biofireplaces more to create a cozy atmosphere both outdoors and indoors.
Benefits:
- Great atmosphere creator
- Suitable for indoor and outdoor use depending on the model
- Clean combustion process
