GUIDE TO DESIGN AND BUILD YOUR OWN BIOFIREPLACE

This guide tells you what to consider when planning and implementing your own biofireplace.

A biofireplace, or bioethanol fireplace, is a fireplace that uses bioethanol as fuel. It burns cleanly, without smoke, soot or ash — this means there is no need for a chimney or flue. When installed and used correctly, a biofireplace is a completely safe way to create atmosphere and heat.

Things to consider when designing and building a biofireplace

Our wide selection includes ready-made biofireplaces that can be integrated into a wall structure, making it easy and safe to build your own biofireplace. A built-in biofireplace consists of the bioburner itself and a thermally insulated protective frame made of strong steel sheet and powder-coated with heat-resistant paint. In many models, you can also choose the color you want from the RAL color chart or make other modifications. Integrable biofireplaces may have product-specific differences, so make sure how the fire protection of the biofireplace's supporting structures should be implemented if necessary. Fire-resistant sheet materials are available for fire protection, which you can use in your project.

There are several different types of built-in biofireplaces with different standard dimensions. If you wish, we can also deliver biofireplaces made to your measurements.

You can choose an integrated biofireplace from the following models, for example:

A biofireplace that is open on one side has an open front and you can embed it directly into the wall structure.

A biofireplace that is open on two sides has an open left or right side in addition to the front, allowing you to stylishly install it in an outer corner of the wall.

A biofireplace that is open on three sides offers an unobstructed view of the flame, as both sides are open in addition to the front. You can install it on a projecting screen or room divider.

The tunnel-style biofireplace is a double-sided fireplace, which is an excellent solution for a room divider between two rooms or areas, for example.

The island-style biofireplace is open on all sides and the fire is visible in every direction, making it a stylish focal point and eye-catcher in the room.

You can also order bioburners separately, in which case it is important that the structure around the burner is made of fire-resistant material such as brick, concrete, stone or metal.

Careful planning ensures a successful outcome

If you are handy, you can build your own biofireplace yourself like a normal interior wall or use a professional to help you. In any case, it is good to have a decent plan for how and what kind of biofireplace you want and how much you are willing to invest in your project. Installing an integrated biofireplace is easy, and since biofireplaces do not smoke, you do not need a chimney or flue. This makes the installation affordable and flexible.

A biofireplace consumes oxygen when in use, so it is also a good idea to check the size of the burner and the room to ensure that the biofireplace is the right size for the space. Please also ensure sufficient ventilation to ensure air exchange. You can find more information about our products on the product pages.

Do you miss the calming atmosphere of a live fire, for example in your apartment building?

A safe and high-quality biofireplace gives you the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of a living fire even in apartments or spaces where it is not necessarily possible to place a fixed, traditional fireplace. In interior design, the only limit is your imagination. You can embed the biofireplace in the wall structure and choose the surface material you want, which will help you create a wonderful effect on your biofireplace wall, for example with wooden battens, cladding stone or paint that differs from the other walls. You can freely decide on the height, width or depth dimensions of the wall structure and thus create a completely unique interior for your home, holiday home or, for example, a café or restaurant. Our experts are always happy to assist you with your project!

Manual or automatic bioburner?

A manual bioburner means that the burner is ignited with a lighter and the flame is adjusted and extinguished with the tool that comes with the biofireplace, by adjusting or closing the burner control plate. Bioethanol is added by opening this control plate and adding bioethanol to the burner tank using a funnel. The upper fuel limit mark is shown on the tank or in the biofireplace instruction manual.

An automatic bioburner, on the other hand, performs the same functions on its own using a remote control or an app installed on your smartphone. Alternatively, in certain models, you can also adjust the burner using an integrated display panel or your home automation system. Filling the biofireplace is easy from a larger ethanol tank thanks to an automatic ethanol pump. An automatic bioburner is a more valuable solution, which we generally recommend, because it makes using the biofireplace safer and easier. Automatic bioburners are equipped with several different safety sensors that prevent, for example, overfilling or adding bioethanol while the fireplace is on or hot. An overheating protection monitors the temperature of the burner and turns it off if necessary. An automatic biofireplace requires a standard 230V electrical connection, so please make sure that this is taken into account already in the planning phase.

With our biofireplace inserts, you can easily convert your unused or non-functional fireplace into a modern and environmentally friendly fireplace and enjoy a live fire and additional heat!
